Our Mission

Our mission is to empower Scarborough youth and support those in need by expanding community services, creating safe and accessible opportunities, and developing initiatives that support youth development and homeless outreach within Scarborough.

❋ ABOUT US

For The Neighbourhood, founded in 2023, is a Scarborough-based foundation focused on empowering youth through sports, business, and creative opportunities. Through partnerships with the City of Toronto, ACSA, Boys and Girls Club, and Show Love Scarborough, we have delivered community programs and youth camps, with support from Volunteer Toronto, WSNCC, and Toronto Towards Peace.

❋ WHY IT MATTERS

We believe Scarborough deserves more access, support, and opportunity. By empowering youth and investing in our community, we are creating real change that leads to safer spaces and stronger futures. This work matters because when youth are supported, the entire neighbourhood moves forward.

❋ BUILDING A SUSTAINABLE FUTURE

We build sustainable futures by addressing youth violence through consistent programs, mentorship, and access to safe spaces. Through basketball tournaments, training programs, and creative outlets, we provide structure, skill development, and positive community for Scarborough youth to grow, thrive, and stay connected.

❋ HOW YOU CAN HELP

You can support our mission by volunteering your time, sharing your skills, or partnering with us to expand programs and opportunities for Scarborough youth. Together, we can create safer spaces, stronger communities, and lasting impact.

  • "My son has tried different community programs, but this one feels different. The youth programs are organized, consistent, and positive. He is learning teamwork, discipline, and leadership in a space that feels safe."

  • "I met my best friend joining the 5 v 5 basketball tournament they hosted. I was new to the city and the community gave me a strong sense of belonging in scarborough."

  • “I joined one of the youth programs not knowing anyone. After a few weeks, I felt like I had a second family. The coaches and mentors actually care about what we think.”

  • “The youth programs helped me step out of my comfort zone. I learned how to communicate better and work with people I did not know before. It is more than just basketball or events.”

  • “I appreciate that the youth programs mix physical activity with real conversations about goals and the future. My child leaves every session motivated. As a parent, that means everything.”

  • “I like coming to the youth programs because I get to play, learn, and see my friends. The coaches help me get better and they actually explain things so I understand.”

  • “The mentors in the youth programs talk to us about goals and school. They care about what we want to do when we grow up.”
